Port workers and port unions    EN

Author: ROUSSEV IVAN

There is only general data regarding these indicators: after the Liberation (1878) the number of workers in the Port of Varna exceeded 2,000, including porters, carters and boatmen. Subsequently, the construction of piers obviated the need for boatmen and facilitated the process of handling cargo. In the second decade of the 20th century the number of dockers and stevedores employed in the port exceed 1,000[1].
