Before 1829. information on the trade of Galaţi is extremely scarce. as there were no official statistics kept. When available. such data is to be taken with great care. The first continuous and coherent statistics were compiled in the Romanian Principalities by the foreign consuls settled in the 1830s at Brăila and Galaţi. Romanian statistics are only available from the 1870s.
