Armenian community    EN

Author: ROUSSEV IVAN

An Armenian community in Burgas was formed as a result of the old migrations, the earliest of which date from the 16th century. In the 70 years of the 17th century, Burgas has already a small Armenian colony. The existence of this colony is testified also in the middle of the 18th century, while at the end of the same century 10 new Armenian families came to Burgas. They arrived from Yerevan and Karin (Erzurum) and they were mainly engaged in trade and crafts. In 1829, the Russian general Eneholm noted the presence of 29 Armenian houses in Burgas. The presence of Armenian population in Burgas in also recorded with certainty in the 1860s. (Victor Galabert, July 1863) [1].
