Burgas

Jewish community    EN

Author: ROUSSEV IVAN

The presence of Jews among the population of Burgas at the beginning of the XIX century is attested by J. Boskovich. Until the establishment of Eastern Rumelia (1878) the number of Jews in Burgas was limited. Actually, Burgas’ Jewish community emerged after 1878 as a result of the influx of Jewish settlers to the port city, who came mainly from Karnobat and Yambol. According to the official census of 1885 the number of Jews in Burgas was 215 people. [1]
