Burgas

Theaters’ history    EN

Author: ROUSSEV IVAN

The origins of theater in Bourgas go back to the 1880s. In 1882, Burgas teachers staged in "Princess Clementine" school the one-act comedy "Malakova" by the Bulgarian writer Petko Slaveykov. During the same period the town was visited by Greek theaters and the Sofia Theatre "Base" (1890).

On January 1, 1912 theater "Borislav" built by Alexi Yordanov was officially inaugurated. The famous at that time theater star Rose Popova was invited in the city and organized the "Bourgas city theater" troupe. This was the beginning of the professional theater in Burgas. [1]
