Burgas
The hinterland of the port-city
Author: ROUSSEV IVAN
The environs of Burgas include the mountainous, hill and valley regions of Strandzha (north slopes of the mountain) and the region south of the Balkan range (valleys south of Eastern Balkan range). These regions display a dense network of mostly Bulgarian villages, which functioned during the 19th century as a demographic pool for the city of Burgas and contributed to its becoming a Bulgarian city by the early 20th century.
